Verification scope
TLS purpose and hostname/IP are checked only on end certificates. OpenSSL validates the entire chain including CA constraints for those checks. Separate CA checks evaluate the path to a trust anchor without treating the CA as a TLS endpoint. The summary covers end certificates and independent chain endpoints.
